The attempted rejuvenation of Alfa Romeo is in full swing at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and the small Italian brand is going to benefit from having some powerful corporate cousins.

Fiat Chrysler plans to introduce a new lineup of rear-wheel drive Alfa Romeo sedans and SUVs that will take the fight to BMW, Mercedes and Audi, and they will do so with Ferrari powerplants. These models are slated to arrive starting in 2016, and the high-end versions of these cars will use powerplants designed by Ferrari.

Since 2004, Alfa Romeo sales have fallen by 56 percent. But European auto sales are now back on the rise and Fiat Chrysler wants to pounce on the opportunity to reinvigorate Alfa Romeo. The plan will see Alfa Romeo models commanding higher price points than their mass-market cousins from Fiat, Chrysler and Dodge.

Outside of North America, Alfa Romeo will sell their cars though Jeep dealerships, though in the US the brand is expected to sell its cars in conjunction with Maserati. The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C will be the first Alfa vehicle to be sold in the US, and it will make its official North America debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
