At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, the Alfa Romeo Gloria concept was on display, which may have been a preview of an upcoming Alfa Romeo model known as the 6C.

The 6C is said to be a mid-size luxury model, based on the Maserati Ghibli platform. With the Maserati Ghibli now official, the Fiat Group is turning its attention to sharing the Ghibli’s chassis with Alfa Romeo. The mid-size model lineup will consist of a coupe and a sedan and for now, will be known as the 6C.

Sources say that the 6C sedan will arrive in 2015 as a 2016 model with the coupe following after. The Fiat Group is internally setting a very lofty goal of 40,000 units a year for the 6C lineup. Expect the 6C to sacrifice some of the Ghibli’s luxury for a sportier ride and driving experience. And with the automaker’s association with Ferrari, the 6C could see some potent powerplants with horsepower numbers the 400 range.

The Ghibli’s turbo-diesel is also likely to find its way into the 6C lineup and has a good chance of being offered in America.
